Drums is a collection of ten drum kits photographed before gigs at which I played with my band Songs, between June 2009 and November 2010. The pictures were snapped moments before the band performed.
Max Doyle is a Sydney-based photographer and musician, who also acts as the editor-in-chief of doingbird. Doyle first began shooting in the mid-nineties in London and Paris, working for such influential magazines as The Face, Sleaze Nation and i-D. Upon returning to Sydney at the tail end of the nineties, Doyle established himself as one of the country’s leading photographers, landing covers and constant editorial work for Vogue Australia. In 2001, Malcolm Watt and Doyle founded doingbird, a cross-cultural platform aimed to inject a dose of the iconoclastic into the Australian and international publishing landscape. The duo co-curated the No More Than I Know exhibition at ACP in 2003. Doyle currently fronts the band, Songs, who released their debut album in 2009 and recently directed his first short film, Arc.
