Solo exhibition by Nathan Brindle
Opening reception Thursday September 18th from 6pm
September 19th – October 5th
Open Thursday – Sunday, 12pm – 6pm
Pushing Tide delivers a new series of drawings and paintings exploring the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Artist Nathan Brindle’s third solo exhibition documents personal narratives as well as the sublime and brutal geography encountered while traversing the region. Brindle’s work flags a new mode of experimental cartography which merges place, identity and narrative. Referencing the slowing of momentum against the tidal changes while travelling by boat. Pushing Tide touches on the legacy of artists working at the Australian frontier, where solitude in vastness of the landscape is often paralleled with interior exploration.
Nathan Brindle is a Sydney-based artist whose practice draws upon his expertise as a chef, skateboarder and fisherman. Known for collage-style mixed-media drawings and paintings, Brindle’s figurative work references travel and place, storytelling and introspection. This body of work was produced while working as a chef on board a charter boat in the Kimberley.
“This is a landscape of cliffs shattered beyond belief, defended by resinous spinifex, crocodiles and whirlpools generated by immense tides.
